College Nugget – The Florida Gators landed a solid commitment Saturday from Maryland transfer Max Garcia.  His reason for transferring is to be closer to home, which is Norcross, Ga.  Garcia, who has to sit out one year, started 12 games at left tackle for the Terrapins in 2011.  The other schools that had interest were: Clemson, Georgia, Ole Miss and Southern California.

You Should Know – The NFL unveiled its 2012 regular-season schedule last night.  The Jacksonville Jaguars have only one prime-time game.  It’s versus the Indianapolis Colts in a Thursday night game on Nov. 8.  Last season, Jacksonville had three prime-time games.  On the schedule release, Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey stated, “It’s interesting to see how it’s going to unfold.  To see the road trips and where they fall.  It’s always interesting to see and then start planning it out.”

You Should Know – The Jacksonville Giants are making their way home today as the ABA’s national champions.  In a best-of-three Finals, the Giants took down the top-ranked South Carolina Warriors, 2-0.  Jacksonville, which completed its second season in the American Basketball Association, wrapped it up Sunday with a 100-91 victory.  Prior to the Finals, the Warriors held a 3-0 series lead on the Giants.  Jermaine Bell was named Tournament MVP, and Sherod “Hot Rod” Harris and Lamar Sanders were selected to the All-Tournament team.   This is the first time in the history of Jacksonville that a Jacksonville-based professional team has won a National Championship.

Jacksonville Giants Professional Basketball – The ABA Jacksonville Giants moved to the final two teams in the ABA National Championship after defeating the San Diego SOL.  

The remaining two teams in the Championship Series are the Jacksonville Giants and the South Carolina Warriors.  The three game elimination format will begin tonight at 7:00  p.m. with Game One. Game Two will be played on Sunday.  If one team does not win both Game One and Game Two, Game Three held Monday night.

This will be a tough road for the Giants.  They have never defeated the Warriors.
