College Nugget – The Florida Gators landed a solid commitment Saturday from Maryland transfer Max Garcia.  His reason for transferring is to be closer to home, which is Norcross, Ga.  Garcia, who has to sit out one year, started 12 games at left tackle for the Terrapins in 2011.  The other schools that had interest were: Clemson, Georgia, Ole Miss and Southern California.

Question of the Day – Have the Jaguars floated the idea of trading up from No. 7?

You Should Know – Chicago White Sox pitcher Philip Humber threw a perfect game – the first one in nearly two years – Saturday against the Seattle Mariners.  It was baseball’s 21st perfect game.  Humber was the No. 3 overall pick by the New York Mets in 2004, one spot behind Detroit’s Justin Verlander.  The season after he was drafted he had elbow-ligament replacement surgery and didn’t record a win in the majors until 2010.  Humber’s perfect game consisted of nine strikeouts with just 96 pitches in his first complete game of the year.

Broadcasting Note – The last two editions of the Madden video game have had the broadcasting duo of Gus Johnson and Cris Collinsworth.  This year’s version will replace them with CBS pair Jim Nantz and Phil Simms.

Strange Thought of the Day – When will Jon “Bones” Jones make a leap to the UFC’s heavyweight division?

Tweet of the last 24 hours – @vitostellino (Vito Stellino, NFL reporter for the Florida Times-Union) “Florida is great for playing tennis year round, which I love to do, and going to beach.  Not so great for supporting sports teams.”

Stat(s) of the Day – On Saturday night, the Jacksonville Sharks ended a three-game losing streak by beating the Cleveland Gladiators, 54-49.  With 25 seconds remaining, Sharks receiver Bobby Sewall caught a 25-yard touchdown pass.  Quarterback Omar Jacobs, who recorded Jacksonville’s first 300-yard passing game of the season, threw six touchdowns.

Link of the Day – The Washington Nationals have a quality pitching staff.
