Jaguars Bite of the Day – Free agency begins today at 4 p.m.  This year’s salary cap figure is set at $120.6 million.  The Jaguars are one of the league’s top five teams in terms of cap room availability.  Jacksonville has between $35 and $40 million to spend.  How much control does owner Shahid Khan have over the Jags’ free agent decisions?  Jacksonville needs to put offensive weapons around quarterback Blaine Gabbert.  Also, let’s see if they keep free agents Jeremy Mincey and Dwight Lowery.

Question of the Day – How active will the Jaguars be in free agency?

You Should Know – According to ESPN sources, Peyton Manning met with Miami Dolphins coach Joe Philbin in Indianapolis.  Philbin and other Dolphins staff members met for five to six hours Monday night.  It was Manning’s third meeting over the last week.  He has already sat down with representatives from Denver and Arizona.  Manning, who was released by the Indianapolis Colts after 14 seasons, will meet with the Tennessee Titans either today or Wednesday.

College Football Nugget – North Carolina’s football program was placed on three years of probation and banned from the 2012 postseason.  The NCAA found UNC responsible for violations including “academic fraud, impermissible agent benefits, participation by ineligible players and a failure to monitor the football program.”  The school previously had vacated all 16 wins from 2008 and 2009 and reduced nine scholarships over the next three academic years.

Broadcasting Note – From Deadspin, here’s a compilation of SportsCenter’s coverage of Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts from last week.  Manning was the most-mentioned athlete on ESPN’s highlight show.

Strange Thought of the Day – It seems like we’re all assuming the addition of Peyton Manning will make a team playoff-caliber.  What if, instead, they get worse?

Tweet of the last 24 hours – @TigerWoods (Tiger Woods, former world No. 1 golfer) “Got good news from docs tonight.  Only mild strain of left Achilles.  Can resume hitting balls late in week and hopeful for next week.”

Stat(s) of the Day – Late Monday night, long-time NFL receiver Randy Moss officially became a San Francisco 49er.  He spent last year out of football.  In 2010, Moss played for New England, Minnesota and Tennessee.  The 35-year-old worked out with the New Orleans Saints last Monday.

Link of the Day – “Is Chicago really the best trade option for Dwight Howard?”

Video of the Day – The Knicks were handed their sixth straight loss last night.  Bulls guard Derrick Rose had a shot blocked by Jeremy Lin, too.
