CNN'S 2012 GOP Presidential Debate at UNF Jacksonville, Florida

On January 26, 2012, MilleronSports.com captured the local flavor of the CNN 2012 GOP Presidential Debate in Jacksonville, Florida.  The debate was held in the Lazzara Fine Arts Performance Hall on the beautiful campus of the University of North Florida.  The afternoon temperature on campus was 80 degrees with clear skies and a light easterly breeze.  What wonderful Florida weather for our nation and the world to see as television cameras were set up near the University Green in front of the Fine Arts Center as well as north between the J.B. Coxwell Amphitheater and the Student Union building.

Does Romney's Religion Have an Impact on Voters?

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Mitt Romney's decline in South Carolina has some wondering if religion has anything to do with it. So we took the case to local Mormons.

"I believe in Christ," said Monice Livsey.

It's a simple statement, but one that Monica Livsey said perplexes some people when they learn she's Mormon. The Livseys moved to Jacksonville from Utah nine years ago with their two kids.

"When people ask me the question and we talk about it, it can be a really nice way to discuss our beliefs and that's what we're after," she said.

Now, Mitt Romney has Mormonism and religion at center stage.

JAX Chamber Unveils Concept for Downtown’s New Front Door


The JAX Chamber unveiled its plans to build Downtown’s New Front Door at its 127th Annual Meeting today.

Announced in 2011 as part of the Chamber’s new brand and approach, the redesign includes the renovation of the building’s interior and exterior facade, designed by Content Design Group, and a complete redesign of the adjacent parks and a new sustainable parking area, designed by Marquis Halback Inc (previously Halback Design Group Inc.). 

Stephen Colbert Schedules Interview with Jacksonville Leader

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- TV Show host and comedian Stephen Colbert has scheduled an interview with Duval County Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland.

"The producer said they were interested in doing an interview on political action committees," Holland said. 

The interview was set up about two months ago, and will be Jan. 16. Holland didn't really know why Jacksonville. "Maybe we were just the ones who answered the call," he said.

Colbert has made a living doing mock interviews, typically making fun of the subject getting interviewed. "I have seen the show before, yes," Holland said. 

He also acknowledged that he was aware he may get mocked. "Believe me, it'll be a challenge to go on there and not get made fun," he said.

Former Pa. Gov. Ed Rendell Calls for Big Projects, Investment in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- As the Panama Canal nears expansion and ports up and down the East Coast compete for dollars, the city's infrastructure and business potential were the focus of a panel discussion this morning.

Former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, co-chair of Building America's Future Educational Fund, joined officials from Jaxport, the Jacksonville Transportation Authority, the Jacksonville Aviation Authority and CSX at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront to discuss what needs to be done to make the First Coast more competitive.
