Governor Scott Gets to Work at NAS JAX

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Governor Rick Scott will hold his third "Let's Get to Work" day at Naval Air Station Jacksonville.

The Governor's will be there from approximately 5:15 a.m. until 3:30 in Thursday afternoon.

We're told the Governor will begin the day by working at the gate.

Good Morning Jacksonville will join the Governor live starting at 5:45 a.m.

Duval County School Board Announces Superintendent’s Evaluation

Duval County School Board members today provided Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals with his evaluation for the 2010/2011 school year. 

The Superintendent was evaluated in seven areas of responsibility, including relationships with the Board, community relationships, staff and organizational relationships, educational leadership, fiscal leadership, personal qualities and an overall performance rating.

FOP, Lodge 5-30 Endorses Candidate in September Special Election

The Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 5-30 is pleased to announce Audrey Gibson has officially received the endorsement of the groups’ membership.

On Tuesday, August 23, 2011, the political action committee made recommendations after completing interviews with candidates for Senate District 1.  The seat will be filled by a special election on September 20, 2011 after Tony Hill resigned to join the Brown administration.

Mayor Creates Education Commissioner's Office

Mayor Alvin Brown issued an executive order naming the first Education Commissioner for the City of Jacksonville.

The office is designed to serve as a bridge between City Hall and Duval County Public Schools with a mission to increase graduation rates and better prepare Jacksonville’s youths for the 21st Century job market. The office will have no executive powers over the school system but will serve a crucial supportive function to raise private money and rally community support at a time the schools are facing cutbacks.

Chamber's Downtown and Arlington Councils to Host All-council Meeting with the Mayor

The Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Downtown and Arlington councils are hosting a breakfast meeting with Mayor Alvin Brown on Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 7-8:45 a.m., at the AT&T Tower Auditorium (second floor), 301 West Bay Street.

Weinstein Announces Campaign Finance Committee

State Representative Mike Weinstein today announced the membership roster of his Campaign Finance Committee.  The committee includes more than 100 community leaders from across Clay, Duval and St. Johns Counties.
 
Weinstein said, "I am blessed and overwhelmed at the level of widespread support that I continue to receive from throughout the district as I campaign to serve my third term in the Florida House of Representatives.  I am honored to know that these community leaders believe in me as we work together to fight for the ideals of limited government and more freedom for all of Florida.
