Visit Jacksonville Names Dennis Tracy as Senior VP, Destination Sales & Marketing

Visit Jacksonville has hired tourism veteran Dennis Tracy who will serve in the newly created role of Senior Vice President, Destination Sales & Marketing leading the efforts to sell and market the city as a meetings and convention destination.  His first day with Visit Jacksonville was April 26.

Tracy, a 30-year industry professional, will manage the daily operations and activities of the sales department, overseeing the expansion of the city’s efforts in securing citywide convention business and championing the growth of the association, corporate, medical, multicultural, and sports markets.  He will also serve as a consistent presence at trade shows and client events for face-to-face business dealings with planners to book conventions and meetings for Jacksonville.

The hire marks the second phase of a company-wide reorganization for the city’s tourism arm orchestrated by new President & CEO Daniel O’Byrne.  The organization has restructured to create distinct sales and marketing efforts to improve efficiencies in promoting and selling the destination to individual and group visitors.  In March, Mya Surrency was promoted to Vice President, Tourism Marketing & Development to oversee growth in individual leisure visitation.

Tracy has a well-rounded background in all facets of tourism sales, working in destination marketing organizations, hotels and attractions.  He comes to Visit Jacksonville from the Little Rock (Ark.) Convention and Visitors Bureau, where he served as the Director of Sales and Marketing for four years, leading a team of 14 sales and services professionals and managing a $3.5 million annual sales and marketing budget.  Prior to 2007, he also worked as National Accounts Manager and then Acting Director of Sales at the Greater Cincinnati Convention and Visitors Bureau, Director of Sales for the Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal and Director of Sales at the Westin Hotel Cincinnati.

“With a stronger emphasis on the group sales effort and increased discussion for the rationale behind a new convention center, the experience Dennis brings to Visit Jacksonville will be a true asset for our destination’s tourism industry,” said O’Byrne.  “I have the utmost confidence that under his leadership, we can expect great things from the sales team, and will continue to see positive growth and a greater booking conversion for the meetings and conventions market in Jacksonville.”
