Another Teen Suspect Arrested in Kalil McCoy Shooting Death | News
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Four people have now been arrested in connection with the death of 19-year-old Kalil McCoy a month ago, and like three of the others, the most recent is a teenager.
This morning, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 18-year-old Kennard Deshun Mahone.
Kalil McCoy was shot to death on June 20, and her body was found about 36 hours later in a wooded area off E. 31st Street.
Police believe McCoy, who was last seen at Kooker Park, got into a vehicle with several other people and drove off. Detectives have said there was a gun in the vehicle, and it went off as Fredrick Lee Wade was handling it.
Wade, 19, was arrested on a manslaughter charge July 1.
Detectives believe Brooks, Mears and Mahone were in the vehicle when McCoy was shot.
All three face felony charges of accessory after the fact because of what happened after the shooting.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the four suspects then drove her body to E. 31st Street and dumped it about 25-30 feet off the road in the woods.
Mahone's arrest report indicates he then lied to detectives who were questioning him about McCoy's death, part of what JSO calls an "orchestrated attempt by all individuals present in the vehicle at the time of the shooting."
When Mahone was interviewed a second time, he confessed that he had previously given false information the first time.
With Mahone's arrest, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office feels they have all suspects in McCoy's death now in custody.
