Jacksonville drops bid for Olympic Swimming trials
News

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The city of Jacksonville has dropped its bid to host the 2016 Olympic swimming trials.

According to Alan Verlander, director of sports and entertainment for the city, the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena is too small when it's compared to other large venues in other candidate cities like San Antonio, Indianapolis and Omaha.

Verlander said the United States Olympic Committee was not going to be able to maximize their revenue in Jacksonville.

The city was complimented by the committee for its creative bid. Jacksonville would have generated the least amount of revenue out to the four cities.

The city still wants to be a part of the Olympics and is still looking at bringing other sports like gymnastics here, Verlander said.
