Salvation Army opens cold weather shelter | News
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- In response to the frigid forecast Friday and Saturday, the Salvation Army is opening their cold night shelter to accommodate homeless men unable to get a bed in a traditional shelter.
The Salvation Army's Citadel Corps Community Center, located at 15 E. Church St. downtown, will begin serving hot meals at 6:30 p.m., according to a news release from the Salvation Army.
The cold night shelter is activated when overnight temperatures are forecast to drop below 40 degrees in the downtown area, the release said.
After the warm meal, the shelter doors open and nearly 100 men will have a warm place to sleep.
The shelter will close at 7 a.m. Saturday morning. As the men leave, they will be offered snacks and a hot beverage.
