MLS team playing exhibition games in Jacksonville for the next 3 years

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The  Philadelphia UnionMajor League Soccer team will play an exhibition game at EverBank Field for the next three years, Mayor Alvin Brown announced Tuesday.

Local company Sea Best Seafood will sponsor the games. The first game is scheduled to take place on Feb. 15 at 7:30 p.m. and the opponent has yet to be announced. Tickets are now on sale on Ticketmaster and at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena box office.

Single tickets are listed as $31.70 after taxes and fees and everyone over the age of two must have a ticket, according to Ticketmaster's site.

"Jacksonville has shown a strong interest in soccer. Just ask the 45,000 fans who broke a Southeast attendance record last May for the US Men's National Team match at EverBank Field," said Brown in a release from the city. "The city's partnership with Philadelphia Union poses an incredible opportunity to expand our portfolio of events and create an unforgettable experience that enlivens our Downtown and strengthens our heartbeat as a city."

Like the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL, the Philadelphia Union is a relatively young franchise in MLS. The team was awarded to the city of Philadelphia on Feb. 28, 2008, according to the release.

"We are excited to play in front of the people of Jacksonville and look forward to establishing a long-term relationship with the city of Jacksonville and its fans," said Nick Sakiewicz, CEO & Operating Partner of Philadelphia Union.
