Jacksonville Giants, City Hall Pub giving back for Thanksgiving | News
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Giants basketball team is serving up more than dunks this thanksgiving.
They're teaming up with the City Hall Pub to serve a Thanksgiving dinner to anyone who needs somewhere to go.
"It's our third year giving back to the community, doing thanksgiving, so we look forward to the opportunity," said head coach Kevin Waters.
From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving all of the players, coaches, and staff will invite the community in to give thanks.
"It humbles us, it allows us to keep things in perspective," Waters said.
But for all it does for the community, it helps the players and staff too.
Many of them couldn't make it home for Thanksgiving, and some staff have loved ones in the military on active duty, so this gives them a place to go as well.
"My coworkers are like a second family. They're taking me in, doing a team Thanksgiving with the players, coaches, staff, everyone is going to be there," said front office employee Caitlyn Keppler.
She said she's thankful to the Giants organization for taking everyone in.
"Every year it's like, 'where am I going to go for Thanksgiving?' And everyone is really welcoming," she said.
Now they want to extend that welcome to the community -- which is a real slam dunk.
