JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- This Saturday, October 6, the inaugural Community First Saturday will take place at the Downtown Riverwalk.

The event, sponsored by Community First Credit Union, encourages people to rediscover and engage with Jacksonville's city center and Downtown venues, according to a news release for the event.

From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. the first Saturday of each month, residents and visitors will be able to participate in a variety of family-friendly activities. The release said new activities will be added each month.

JAX Chamber Director of Downtown Engagement Tony Allegretti said, "Community First Saturdays connects residents and visitors with our beautiful Riverwalk area and Downtown while promoting a healthy and active lifestyle. With Downtown as a top priority at the JAX Chamber, this event is one way we are helping enhance and promote our urban core."

The event will offer free fitness classes including yoga, tai chi and hula from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Riverwalk area located directly behind the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts.

Also taking place behind the Times-Union Center is JaxParks' Art in the Park, which has interactive art making with potter's wheels, basket weaving and music until 4 p.m., the release said.

There will also be a bike valet and bike tours of art venues.  Jacksonville Jaguars members will staff high jump and long jump activities.

"Community East" is located appropriately east of the Times-Union Center. There you will find food trucks, a cafe with craft beers and tables and chairs. Community East will be open from 11 a.m. to dusk in the old courthouse parking lot.

During the event, the JTA Skyway will provide free service to the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Main Library and the Museum of Science and History.
