New courthouse fails more tests Saturday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- More tests at the new Duval County Courthouse proved to be unsuccessful Saturday.

According to a spokesperson for Jacksonville Fire Chief Martin Senterfitt, the courthouse will go through further smoke safety testing starting at 4 a.m. Sunday.

The spokesperson did not know how long the tests would take Sunday.

When those tests are complete, officials will discuss what to do about opening the courthouse.

The city and fire officials may look into a phased opening.

That means parts of the courthouse would open, while the other areas that still have problems with the fire systems would remain closed.

Because the courthouse is closed until further notice, all jury trials for next week have been canceled.

That's according to the Clerk of Courts Jim Fuller.

Civil trials will be held at the annex.
