Security Measures Earn EverBank Field A National Award

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- EverBank Field has been named a recipient of the National Sport Safety & Security Facility of Merit Award for the 2011 season. The award is presented by the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety & Security.

EverBank Field was nominated by the NFL for its quick implementation of new security and screening measures put in place by the League in 2011. The enhanced security screenings included using hand-held metal detectors instead of pat downs to check guests.

Among the changes SMG made at the stadium were to create express lanes for expedited screening, having screeners wear high-visibility vests to let fans know what gate to approach, and placing plastic bag dispensers at each gate so guests can hold metal objects while passing through the security gates.

Included in the nomination is that EverBank Field exceeded the League average for metal detector use at all gates. The use of the metal detectors helped screeners prevent 35 knives from passing through the gates on the January 1 game.

"The safety and security of our fans is our first concern," said Bill Prescott, chief financial officer for the Jacksonville Jaguars. "I commend and applaud the entire EverBank Field game-day team for this recognition."

SMG will now show its process for transitioning from pat downs to hand-held metal detector screenings to other NFL stadiums.

The award presentation will take place at the National Sports Safety & Security Conference & Exhibition in New Orleans on August 1.
