The Morning Miller On Sports For March 8, 2012

You Should Know – Jaguars running back Rashad Jennings, in an interview with the team’s site, is “beyond great, beyond excited” for the 2012 season.  Last year, plans were for him to get more carries to allow Maurice Jones-Drew extra rest.  In the third game of the preseason, Jennings sustained a knee injury.  Eight days later, he was placed on injured reserve.  He said, “It was the best decision for the team at the time.  I wish it wouldn’t have happened, but I’m so glad it did.”  Jennings, who was drafted by the Jags in the 2009 seventh round, wants to return to pre-injury form.

Jaguars Bite of the Day – CSNBayArea.com reports the Jaguars could be in play for free agent receiver Josh Morgan.  On Thursday, Matt Maiocco wrote, “Jacksonville is expected to make a competitive play for Morgan.”  In January, the Jags hired former 49ers assistant coach Jerry Sullivan to be its wide receivers coach.  Sullivan thinks highly of Morgan, who turns 27 in June.  Last year, he played nine games before fracturing his foot.  In 49 career games with San Francisco, Morgan has nine receiving touchdowns.

College Football Nugget – Legendary Florida State coach Bobby Bowden will be inducted into FSU’s Athletics Hall of Fame on Aug. 31.  It’ll be the first time he’s returned for a game at Doak Campbell Stadium since he retired after the 2009 season.  Bowden will watch the Seminoles host Murray State in FSU’s season opener.  One of his former quarterbacks, Danny Kanell, will join him as a member of the 2012 class.

Broadcasting Note – Here we have a dramatic finish between two Australian National Rugby League teams.  The Sydney Roosters edged out the South Sydney Rabbitohs, and the announcers from Triple M Radio go crazy.

Strange Thought of the Day – What if Andrew Luck is a better quarterback than Peyton Manning was with the Indianapolis Colts?

Tweet of the last 24 hours – @CFTalk (College Football Talk) “Bobby Bowden one of seven new members of FSU Hall of Fame.  Will attend home game Sept. 1 for first time since ‘retiring’ after 2009 season.”

Stat(s) of the Day – Sunday’s Heat-Lakers game averaged a record 7.037 million viewers and drew a 4.3 rating.  It set the mark for most viewers for a non-Christmas, regular-season NBA game on ABC.  The matchup became highly-publicized after Miami’s Dwyane Wade fouled and broke the nose of Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant in the All-Star Game one week earlier.

Link of the Day – Former Boston Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon told a radio station Thursday that Phillies fans “tend to know the game a little better” than the Red Sox fateful.  Early in free agency, Philadelphia signed Papelbon, who attended Bishop Kenny High School, to a four-year, $50 million contract.

Video of the Day – The Orlando Magic’s Hedo Turkoglu drove to the hoop in the waning minutes of Thursday’s win over Chicago.  Turkoglu thought he was fouled.  Because of the no-call, he ran over to the ref and grabbed him.  Turkoglu was whistled for a technical foul.

Question of the Day – Will Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath ever have anything nice to say about his former team, the New York Jets?
