Jaguars Bite of the Day – On Wednesday, the Jaguars and cornerback Rashean Mathis came to an agreement on a one-year deal worth $5 million.  In 2011, he played in nine games before suffering a season-ending torn ACL.  Mathis, who turns 32 in August, is still recovering from the knee injury.  He is Jacksonville’s all-time leader in interceptions, with 30.

You Should Know – The Indianapolis Colts officially cut veteran quarterback Peyton Manning on Wednesday.  Manning, a Super Bowl MVP, was due a $28 million option bonus this week by the Colts.  Since Manning was released, he is now an unrestricted free agent.  A number of neck surgeries caused him to miss the 2011 season.  Also, the Colts have the No. 1 overall pick for April’s NFL Draft.  They are expected to take Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck.  Multiple teams are interested in Manning, including Arizona, Miami, Seattle, Washington and the New York Jets.  Manning turns 36 this month.

College Football Nugget – South Carolina’s No. 1 overall prospect Tramel Terry committed to the University of Georgia for a second time.  The four-star wide receiver chose the Bulldogs over South Carolina and Clemson.  Terry originally committed to Georgia in July on “Dawg Night.”  He backed off his pledge in September and went public with the second commitment on Tuesday.  Terry is the eighth recruit for the 2013 class.  He’s planning to play receiver and some defensive back.

Broadcasting Note – Fox Sports has plans for a “dedicated ‘social media reporter’ popping up to report on relevant social media postings.”  Laura McKeeman will serve in that role for Fox Sports’ coverage of the Pac-12 men’s basketball tournament.

Strange Thought of the Day – Lionel Messi became the first soccer player in the Champions League era to score five goals in one game.  The 24-year-old helped Barcelona defeat Bayer Leverkusen, 7-1.  Is Messi the most dominant athlete in his/her sport in the world?

Tweet of the last 24 hours – @ReillyRick (Rick Reilly, ESPN.com columnist) “This is the most vulnerable and emotional I’ve ever seen Peyton Manning.  One of the classiest exits I’ve ever seen in sports.”

Stat(s) of the Day – The Miami Hurricanes basketball team plays Georgia Tech in the ACC Tournament tonight.  It will be the first postseason game with Miami for head coach Jim Larranaga.  Prior to this gig, Larranaga coached 14 seasons at George Mason.  He guided them to five NCAA Tournament berths.  Most notably, the 2005-06 Patriots made it to the Final Four.

Link of the Day – There are anywhere from five to 10 teams in the running for Peyton Manning.  From the Denver Post, the Broncos want to gauge their chances of landing Manning.  Is Tim Tebow’s starting job in trouble?

Video of the Day – On the road, Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose hit a buzzer-beater last night against the Milwaukee Bucks.  It simply strengthens the argument for Rose being the league’s best point guard.

Question of the Day – Would Peyton Manning be willing to play for one of the other three teams in the AFC South?
