Jacksonville Giants It is official, the ABA Jacksonville Giants will host the 2012 ABA Southeastern Regional Playoff games March 17th and 18th.  The final round will be played at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena on Sunday March 18th.

You Should Know – In five days we’ll know the entire field for this year’s NCAA Tournament.  Yes, it’s the early stages of March Madness.  So far, eight teams have clinched automatic bids.  On Monday, four made their way in by winning a conference title game – Saint Mary’s, VCU, Davidson and Loyola (Maryland).  ESPN predicts the Big East will have 10 teams qualify for the Big Dance.  Right now, ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi has Northwestern, Seton Hall, Drexel and Xavier as the last four teams in.  He has the SEC getting five squads in and the ACC with four.

Jaguars Bite of the Day – On Monday morning, the Florida Times-Union reported the Jaguars placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on kicker Josh Scobee.  Both sides are still working on a long-term deal.  When Scobee signs the tender, he’ll earn $2.65 million for one year, 2012.  That number will be set in stone once the salary cap figure is announced.  The 29-year-old Scobee was one of five placekickers given the franchise tag.  The deadline to use the designation was 4 p.m. Monday.

College Football Nugget – NCAA sanctions require the USC football program to be under 75 scholarships this season.  With the departure of fullback/linebacker Simione Vehikite, the Trojans current count is at 76.  The fourth-year junior is still enrolled at USC and taking spring classes.  In 2010, Vehikite was suspended for “unspecified reasons” and missed about one month.  During the 2011 season, neck pain caused him to miss significant playing time.

Broadcasting Note – Last week, we saw a solid Tim Kurkjian impression from Blue Jays catcher J.P. Arencibia.  Here Phillies pitcher Jonathan Papelbon does his best Terry Francona.  Papelbon played for Francona, now an ESPN baseball analyst, in Boston.

Strange Thought(s) of the Day – Will there be a day when NFL players love the franchise tag?

Tweet of the last 24 hours – @jamiedukes (Jamie Dukes, former NFL center and current NFL Network analyst) “I have to amend a tweet about bounty gate.  I have witnessed a lot of bounty scenarios but I have never heard of bounties to injure players.”

Stat(s) of the Day – An NFL-record 21 teams used the franchise tag this year.  In 2011, 13 players received the designation.  Browns kicker Phil Dawson has been tagged the last two seasons.

Link of the Day – Former Florida State quarterback Charlie Ward sat down with the Orlando Sentinel to discuss his career in high school coaching.

Video of the Day – Nets guard Deron Williams scored 57 points in Sunday’s domination over the Charlotte Bobcats.  Witness every basket, except for his 21 free throws, in this video.

Question of the Day – Do you use March Madness as an excuse for any outrageous behavior this month?
