Inspectors Cite Restaurants for Mislabeling Fish

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Eleven restaurants on the First Coast have been cited for fishy fish within the past fiscal year.

It's classified as "food misrepresentation" by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Nine of the eateries were cited for misrepresenting white tuna, but really selling escolar, a cheaper alternative.

Johnnys in St. Augustine had a violation listed as selling imitation crab instead of crab rangoon, according to the state inspectors.

Mandarin Wok in Green Cove Springs was cited for using imitation scallops.

Since 2006, the year the Web site started tracking stats, 23 restaurants in Clay County, 97 in Duval and 25 in St. Johns were cited.   Erich Spivey will have more in a report at approximately 5:55 p.m. Monday on First Coast News.
