THE ABA JACKSONVILLE GIANTS BASKETBALL TEAM  - The ABA Jacksonville Giants basketball team will play a special HOME GAME this weekend at the University of North Florida.  Doors open at 5:00 p.m.  Game scheduled for 6:00 p.m.  Tickets prices are $5 and $10.  The Giants Dance Team will perform their slam dunk half time show.  This was a real crowd pleaser this past Sunday when they unveiled it.  The special equipment land was provided by http://www.acrojaxgym.com/

You Should Know – After all the coin flips Friday to determine draft order, the Indianapolis Colts could sign their No. 1 overall selection.  Most assume the Colts will take quarterback Andrew Luck.  This is the first year teams will draft under the new collective bargaining agreement.  Only the first team drafting can sign their choice.

Jaguars Bite of the Day – In a phone interview with the Florida Times-Union, former Jacksonville quarterback David Garrard says he’s 90 to 95 percent healthy.  He sat out the 2011 season after having surgery to repair a herniated disc.  Garrard, a free agent, said, “This past year was an eye opener to the retired life, and I’m definitely not ready for that.”  He stated he’s fine with either starting or being a backup.

College Football Nugget – Earlier this month, West Virginia backed out of a scheduled game against Florida State.  That sent FSU rushing to find a replacement.  On Wednesday, it was announced that the Seminoles will host Savannah State on September 8 at Doak Campbell Stadium.  According to FSU athletic director Randy Spetman, the school tried to lure Arkansas, Cincinnati, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Texas A&M to name a few.  Savannah State receives $475,000 to play the Noles.

Broadcasting Note – Over the weekend, on CBS Sports Network, James Bates and Steve Wolf were previewing a college basketball game between Dayton and Xavier.  The stool Bates was sitting on broke.  Yes, it was caught on live television.

Strange Thought of the Day – If Florida State beats Duke tonight, does FSU coach Leonard Hamilton secure lifetime status at his current school?

Tweet of the last 24 hours – @RotoPat (Patrick Daugherty, writer for Rotoworld and NBC Sports) “I bet if you went back and reviewed all of ESPN’s Kobayashi headlines, at least 25 percent of them would be mildly racist.”

Stat(s) of the Day – The New York Times first reported that the Big East Conference and Temple have been in talks.  For the upcoming season, the Big East has seven football-playing schools set.  Boise State will remain in the Mountain West for the 2012-13 season.  The Big East kicked Temple out in 2004 due to its underachieving football program.

Link of the Day – NFL.com analyst Charley Casserly writes about how the scouting combine was originally to learn about players’ medical conditions and measurables.

Video of the Day – From Wednesday night, Phoenix Suns coach Alvin Gentry was not too pleased with his team’s performance in a 106-104 loss to Golden State.

Question of the Day – Since Green Bay’s Jermichael Finley agreed to a two-year deal worth a tad under $15 million, does this mean he’ll become an elite tight end in 2012?
