You Should Know – Did you think you had heard your last “Manny Being Manny?”  Not so fast.  On Monday, it was announced that Manny Ramirez agreed to a minor-league deal with the Oakland Athletics.  Ramirez, who sat out most of last season, will serve a 50-game suspension.  The ban is due to a second failed drug test, under MLB rules.  His retirement was announced on April 8.  The deal with the A’s is worth about $500,000.  Ramirez, a 12-time All-Star, has played with Cleveland, Boston, the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago White Sox and Tampa Bay.

Jaguars Bite of the Day – Jacksonville cornerback Rashean Mathis said last week he probably won’t be fully recovered from a torn ACL by the start of free agency.  Mathis, who suffered the injury against Indianapolis on November 13, is scheduled to become a free agent on March 13.  According to the team’s official site, he is ahead of his scheduled recovery.  The nine-year veteran stated, “My time is not up yet.”  Mathis added, “If I’m not able to do my job, I don’t want to be anywhere.  That’s not my character.  I don’t want to be on the field just to be on the field.”

College Football Nugget – Over the weekend, Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz hired his son away from the New England Patriots.  Brian Ferentz will coach the Hawkeyes’ offensive line.  From 2008 to 2011, the younger Ferentz was the tight ends coach in New England.  So does Brian thank Patriot tight ends Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski for the Iowa gig?

Broadcasting Note – Saturday Night Live took a jab at the media’s coverage of New York Knicks guard Jeremy Lin.

Strange Thought of the Day – Robert Griffin III says he’ll wow NFL coaches in his interviews at the scouting combine.  But, what if he doesn’t wow them with his on-the-field drills?

Tweet of the last 24 hours – @bubbaprog (Timothy Burke, Deadspin editor) “Wladimir Klitschko on his reaction to Chisora spitting in his face: ‘I really wanted to hit him, trust me.’”

Stat(s) of the Day – At the UNF Arena Monday night, Ospreys guard Parker Smith scored a school-record 46 points in a 75-66 win over Mercer.  The victory closed UNF’s home schedule.  Smith nailed 11 three-pointers.  Two weeks ago, he was named the Atlantic Sun Basketball Player of the Week.

Link of the Day – A profile on Christian Laettner, formerly of the ABA’s Jacksonville Giants.  He’s now an assistant coach with the NBA Developmental League’s Fort Wayne Mad Ants.

Video of the Day – With 0.2 seconds left, UConn’s Shabazz Napier hit a three-pointer from waaay downtown.  That shot made the final score, in overtime – UConn 73, Villanova 70.

Question of the Day – Denver Broncos coach John Fox told the Denver Post he expects two quarterbacks to compete with Tim Tebow for the 2012 starting job.  Will those two guys be as disliked as Kyle Orton was?
