Jacksonville Giants Win First Away Game of Four
Jacksonville Giants Win First Away Game of Four

The Jacksonville Giants took on the Gulf Coast Flash Wednesday night and won 122-101.  This was the first game of four scheduled games on the road.  The Giants vs. Flash has become quite a rivalry since the season one ABA Final Four games in Texas (which the Flash won) and this season's opening night thriller held December 3, 2011(the Giants won at the buzzer).

Jermaine "Slim" Bell turned in another all-star performance tonight as the Giants (13-2) completed the series sweep over the Flash (11-2), 122-101.  Bell finished with 36 points, 15 rebounds and 5 block shots to lead the Giants.  Bell has been the talk among several NBA "D" league teams and was recently scouted in acksonville.

Newly acquired Kevin McDonald led the Giants on defense and helped them take control of the game midway through the second half with 6 rebounds, 7 block shots and 6 steals from the point guard position.

Power forward and Giants 6th man, Lamar Sanders, turned in another great performance off the bench with 10 rebounds and strong defensive play as well.  Currye “C.T. Todd” (who hit the game winning 3-pointer against the Flash earlier this season), added 16 points for the Giants.

After the win, Head Coach Kevin Waters said, "The team is really enjoying playing together and the results are evident.  Defeating Gulf Coast on the road has been our best victory of the year."  Giants team owner Ron Sholes added, "The Flash are a well-coached team and it’s definitely an accomplishment to get the series sweep this year.  We've played some great competition this year and next Sunday’s game against the undefeated South Carolina team is another test.  But first, we've got to get through this road trip."

The Giants wrap up this four game road trip Saturday night in Georgia and return home to play the final weekend of home games at the Veterans Memorial Arena on February 18 at 7:00 p.m. against Panama City and February 19th at 5:00 p.m. against the undefeated and East Conference leading South Carolina Warriors.

Sunday, February 19th  is "Jacksonville Pro Sports Night" sponsored by 1010XL Sports Radio and Energy Armor.  All fans wearing a Jacksonville professional sports team shirt, jersey or jacket are admitted free! That includes anyone wearing a Jaguars, Sharks, Suns, Giants and Axemen jersey.

The Jacksonville Giants were just recognized in the February edition of Sports Illustrated for scoring 211 points.  This is a ABA and world professional basketball record.
