Jaguars Bite of the Day – Former Jags head coach Jack Del Rio was hired as Denver’s defensive coordinator yesterday. Del Rio was the defensive coordinator in 2002 on John Fox’s Carolina Panthers staff. Fox is going into his second year as the Broncos head coach. The Jaguars owe Del Rio $5 million for 2012. According to the Florida Times-Union, with his taking the Denver gig, Jacksonville will pay the difference between his Broncos’ salary and $5 million.
College Football Nugget – Bloomberg News reported Friday that new Tampa Bay Bucs coach Greg Schiano owes Rutgers University $800,000 for loans and buying out the rest of his contract. It’s not all that much money for the newly-appointed NFL head coach.
Broadcasting Note – In a press release, former Indianapolis Colts vice chairman and president Bill Polian has joined Sirius XM NFL Radio as a host and commentator. Polian, who was fired in early January by the Colts, will debut this Monday, January 30, on “Late Hits.” I’m sure there shall be plenty of talk regarding Jim Irsay, Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck.
Strange Thought of the Day – Did Carmelo Anthony sneeze and injure his thumb, wrist and ankle all at once?
Tweet of the last 24 hours – @TheJetsStream (Manish Mehta, New York Jets beat writer for the New York Daily News) “Nice quote from Robert Kraft on Vince Wilfork in SI: ‘He used to kiss me coming off the field & kiss my wife. This year, he kisses me twice.’”
Stat of the Day – Nine MLB teams have pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training on February 18. Contain yourself, please.
Link of the Day – You can still see the Nets and Raptors play in person on Sunday for one measly cent.
Video(s) of the Day – I’m a huge “30 Rock” fan. On Thursday night, Mankind, Mr. Socko and the Phillie Phanatic made cameos.
Question of the Day – How much better will the Cleveland Browns get with Brad Childress as their offensive coordinator?
