On Friday, January 27 at 7pm the Jacksonville Giants will face off against the Panama City Dream at the University of North Florida Arena.  All college and high school students receive free admission with a school ID; as well as active and retired military veterans and their families with military ID. All tickets are general admission and are $5 at the door.

Christian Laettner (former NBA star, Duke standout, and Olympic "Dream Team" Gold Medalist) joined Host Richard Miller on the Miller on Sports radio show on Wednesday, January 25, 2012.  Last week, Laettner accepted an assistant coaching position with the Mad Ants (NBA Development League) in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

You Should Know – The Indianapolis Colts named Chuck Pagano, formerly the Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator, as its head coach on Wednesday.  Pagano, 51, will officially be introduced today.  He’s been an assistant with Baltimore since 2008, but last year was his first as the defensive coordinator.  The main question continues to be: do the Colts keep Peyton Manning?  Sounds like owner Jim Irsay will have a decision around the middle of February.

You Should Know – The Detroit Tigers signed Prince Fielder to a 9-year deal worth $214 million on Tuesday.  The Nationals and Rangers also had interest in the 27-year-old.  After the announcement of Victor Martinez’s injury last week, Detroit needed to add a big bat to the lineup.  Martinez will, most likely, miss the 2012 season due to an ACL tear.  Fielder and Miguel Cabrera should be a nice combo.  We’ll need to keep track of their weight, too.

The Vikings of Raines High School take on the Trojans of Ribault High School.
The atmosphere is building to an electrified level at Raines and Ribault, the stands will
be overflowing to capacity. Alumni will remember clashes of past football glory days.
The smell of hotdogs, hamburgers, chili, popcorn and even crabs will permeate the air.

There will be pep rallies, banners of encouragement, school fight songs sung, the band
will be ready to perform at half time and all supporting persons are in their
respectable places.

Coaches will refine their speeches and players will put on their game faces well before
the Saturday evening event. The media will be ready to digitally catch every play and

Save Duval Sports Fundraisers: Keep Lax in Jax

High schools will be kicking off October with fundraisers to save their sports programs.

Lighthouse Lacrosse will be hosting its First Annual Keep Lax in Jax Benefit Dinner to help save lacrosse. The event will begin with a Silent Auction that starts at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7 p.m. The cost is $50 per person. Duval County Public Schools Conducts Fundraiser with Moe’s Southwest Grill for J.V. Soccer

Several Duval County Public Schools’ high school coaches will conduct a fundraiser in conjunction with Moe’s Southwest Grill to raise money for J.V. soccer. The fundraiser will take place on Monday, September 12, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the four participating locations listed below.

Moe’s Southwest Grill will donate a percentage of their net sales earned on this day between the specified hours to help keep J.V. soccer in Duval County public schools for the 2011-12 school year.
