Jacksonville's ABA Jacksonville Giants (http://www.jacksonvillegiants.com) are heading to Chicago, Illinois, today to face the Chicago Steam.  The winner will join the three other teams already heading to the ABA Final Four in St. Petersburg, Florida.  The two teams will play on Saturday.  Cheer on our local team and join their Facebook page.

Strange Thought of the Day – Even though I’m in favor of giving Blaine Gabbert more time for development and growth, who will finish with more NFL career starts – Gabbert or Miami’s David Garrard?

You Should Know – On Monday, Tim Tebow said he chose the New York Jets over the Jacksonville Jaguars and downplayed any kind of quarterback controversy with Mark Sanchez.  Officially introduced as the Jets newest player, Tebow answered questions ranging from the Denver Broncos to his faith.  Ultimately, he chose the Jets because he has “a better relationship with the Jets’ coaches” than the Jacksonville staff.  More than 200 media members and 36 TV cameras were at a press conference for a backup quarterback.  On Sunday, Jets head coach Rex Ryan suggested Tebow will see time at positions other than quarterback.  “I don’t see Tim holding a clipboard.  He’s going to be playing for us.  There is no doubt.”

You Should Know – Former Nease High School and University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow was traded Wednesday evening to the New York Jets.  The Jets sent a fourth-round and sixth-round pick to the Denver Broncos in return for Tebow and a seventh-rounder.  The trade stalled for several hours over specific language in Tebow’s original contract.  Tebow joins a Jets roster that includes starting quarterback Mark Sanchez and recently-acquired backup Drew Stanton.  Last year, Tebow started 11 regular-season games for the Broncos.  In them, he accounted for 18 touchdowns and 12 turnovers.  In an overtime playoff game against Pittsburgh, Tebow completed an 80-yard game-winner to receiver Demaryius Thomas.

Jaguars Bite of the Day – From Jacksonville’s Daily Record, here is a profile of Peter Racine, the President of the Jacksonville Jaguars Foundation.  The foundation “provides grants and assistance for programs that support local economically and socially disadvantaged youth.”

College Nugget – The Florida Gators baseball team moved their record to 20-1 last night.  Florida, the nation’s top-ranked team, beat Stamford in Gainesville, 5-3.  It’s the Gators’ best start in school history.  They are an impressive 7-1 against top-25 opponents.  On Thursday, the Gators travel to Columbia, South Carolina for a three-game series against the Gamecocks.

Jaguars Bite of the Day – Former Jaguars quarterback David Garrard signed a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins last night.  Cut by Jacksonville prior to the start of last season, he’ll compete with Matt Moore for the starting job this season.  Having fully recovered from back surgery, Garrard said the team told him bringing in another quarterback was still an option.  Miami failed in its attempt to land free agent Peyton Manning.  The Dolphins have also hosted quarterbacks Matt Flynn, who signed with Seattle recently, and Alex Smith.  Since Denver is willing to trade Tim Tebow, Miami could be an interested organization.

You Should Know – The Jacksonville Jaguars signed their first unrestricted free agent this season, wide receiver Laurent Robinson.  He visited team facilities Wednesday.  It was believed Robinson was leaving Jacksonville without a contract.  The former Dallas Cowboy agreed to five years and $32.5 million.  The guarantees are in the range of $14 million.  Robinson, at 6-foot-2, will give second-year quarterback Blaine Gabbert a big target.  Last season, he caught a career-best 54 passes for 858 yards and 11 touchdowns.
