The American Heart Association strongly opposes House Bill 4057, by State Representative Larry Metz, removing the requirement for Middle School Physical Education. 

Currently 30% of Florida’s youth are overweight or obese.  As these students get older, their obesity problem just gets worse.  

Caring For Callie: 4-Year-Old Faces 9th Heart Surgery

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --  You need two hands to count the number of times a little Jacksonville girl has undergone surgery.

4-year-old Callie Carver will soon face another surgery to deal with an extremely rare congenital heart defect.

"She's our miracle," said Sarah Carver.
 
Callie is the bundle of joy Sarah and Will Carver welcomed into the world 4 years ago and they say she's been fighting for her life ever since.

"When I was about 24 weeks is when I found out she had a heart condition," said Carver.

It's an extremely rare heart condition which includes Pulmonary Atresia with an Intact Ventricular Septum.  At such a young age, she's already undergone 8 heart surgeries, 11 heart catherizations and more than two dozen blood transfusions.

"she does great.  You can't tell anything is wrong with her," said Carver.
