Congressman Ander Crenshaw congratulated winners of his annual Congressional Arts Competition on Saturday, May 7 at the Nathan H. Wilson Center for the Arts South Campus at Florida State College Jacksonville. At the event, he presented winners with awards and visited with participating students, their families, and school representatives at the ceremony.

The two (2) day 2011 Funk Fest started off Funky with performances by MC Hammer which got the over 6,000 in attendance in the mood to groove and dance. The excitement in Metropolitan Park was electric in the cool evening air. Mother Nature cooperated perfectly setting up the atmosphere as if in perfect preparation for a Funk-filled partying atmosphere for Earth Wind and Fire.

First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to Host Census Rep

The First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (FCHCC) is hosting a data services specialist from the Census Bureau at its May professional networking meeting. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about and discuss Hispanic population trends reported in the 2010 Census. The Census reported that Hispanics account for 56 percent of the nation’s growth over the past decade, according to the Pew Hispanic Center. Florida has seen dramatic increases as well.

Mayoral candidate, Alvin Brown, will be attending the event to speak to guests and participate in a meet and greet.

Adventure Landing’s Shipwreck Island Waterpark is on a mission to make Northeast Florida “water-aware.”  May has been designated National Water Safety Month by the World Waterpark Association, the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals and the National Recreation & Parks Association.  As a WWA member, Adventure Landing is taking action to educate the public on how to prevent drownings, recreational water-related injuries and sun damage by offering educational information to the media during National Water Safety Month.
