Meet The ABA Jacksonville Giants Basketball Team
Meet The ABA Jacksonville Giants Basketball Team

Final Round of the ABA Southeast Regional Playoffs Sunday At 5:00 p.m. at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.

The ABA's Southeast Regional Playoffs got underway yesterday in Jacksonville with the Jacksonville Giants and Gulf Coast Flash facing off against their Wild Card opponents.  Both the Giants and the Flash dominated from the beginning and cruised to easy victories, setting up a rematch of last season’s Final Four semi-finals matchup.  The Gulf Coast Flash defeated the North Carolina Jaguars 166-96 and the Jacksonville Giants defeated the Fayetteville Flight 178-89, to advance.

Lamar Sanders and Jermaine Bell led the Giants past the Fayetteville Flight in the ABA Southeast Regional Semi-Final. Both players recorded a double double in the winning effort.

When interviewed by Miller on Sports this morning, Team Owner Ron Sholes commented, "We are proud to host the Southeast Regional Playoffs for the American Basketball Association.  It is our goal to ensure that the residents of Jacksonville and the surrounding communities have the opportunity to see professional basketball.  We certainly hope that the Jacksonville Giants will advance to the final round.  The Giants are currently 19-3 this season and are ranked 6th in the ABA league.  This is the second year that the Giants have qualified for the Southeast Regional Championship.  Head Coach Kevin Waters has done a superb job with recruiting as well as coaching and preparing these young professionals.  Now, we are looking forward to hosting this playoff and advancing to the National Championship.  We hope that you will join us this weekend for high-action, fast-paced basketball and to see the amazing Dunkin' Dancers, Jewels and Gems perform at the half-time shows."

As you probably recall, the Giants played the Gulf Coast Flash in the first game of Season Two.  The Giants won that game (116-115) on December 3, 2011, in the last three seconds with former NBA star and Duke Standout Christian Laettner setting up the play and then Mike Polite passing to Currye Todd for the successful three pointer.  So, don't miss game one with the Gulf Coast Flash facing the North Carolina Jaguars at 3:00 p.m.

ABA ALL-STAR GAME

Congratulations to Giants Stars Jermaine Bell and Matt Fields for being selected as "ABA All Stars" for the 2012 ABA All-Star Game that will be played in the near future.  That site will be announced soon.
