Missing Armed Robbery Suspect has 4 Prior Similar Arrests

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A local man with four prior arrests for armed robbery is once again wanted...for armed robbery.

According to a news release from Jacksonville Sheriff's Office spokesperson Melissa Bujeda, the suspect is 35-year-old Elroy Covington Jr.

Bujeda didn't specify the incident for which Covington is wanted.

A search of the JSO inmate information page revealed Covington has seven arrests in Jacksonville since 2003, on charges including battery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, kidnapping and resisting arrest without violence, in addition to the armed robbery arrests.

Covington was most recently arrested in April 2008, on 10 charges, two of which were armed robbery, according to the JSO web page.  He was sentenced to three years in prison, served two years in the Duval County jail, was credited for one year and was released in February, 2010, according to the Duval County Clerk of the Courts website.

No Grand Jury Today in 12-year-old Murder Suspect's Case

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A grand jury did not convene as planned in the case of a 12-year-old suspect accused in the death of his 2-year-old half brother.

There has been no plea deal in the case against the city's youngest murder suspect, Cristian Fernandez. Earlier this week, prosecutors said Fernandez could face another charge for a different felony to be presented to a grand jury.

But according to assistant state attorney Mark Caliel, today the prosecution was served with various motions from the defense that prevented the grand jury from convening.

Following an emergency hearing today with the judge in the case, Caliel said, the prosecution postponed the grand jury proceedings while the court considers the new motions and rules on the issues. Counsels have five days to present any additional arguments or motions.

Christopher Steven Thompson will be immensely missed by family and friends.

This is a tragic event that should never have happened. The warning signs where
there for the teen that ran into Chris killing him, but it seems no one was
listening or did anything to prevent this from happening.
