JACKSONVILLE, Fla (July 29, 2011) – Employees from Lennar Homes spent the afternoon putting smiles on children’s faces as they presented school supplies and backpacks to 111 children from the Russell Bill Cook Community Center and Simonds-Johnson Center.  The two centers are operated by The Boselli Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing support to inner-city children in Jacksonville. The supplies were collected through a company-wide Back to School Drive at Lennar.  Lennar accompanied the backpacks and supplies with a check for $10,000.00 to The Boselli Foundation.

“The first day of school is so very important.  Helping children to start the right way with the supplies they need can ensure a better outcome throughout the year,” said Barbara Moore, division president, Lennar Homes. “The Boselli Foundation is a great organization in our community that transforms the lives of hundreds of children and we are proud to be a part of it.”

Employees from Lennar distributed backpacks  to the children and they were allowed to pick the  color they wanted.  Lennar also provided cases of school supplies, including glue, paper, pencils, crayons and folders, which will be distributed directly to the teachers at various schools. “Teachers so often spend their own money to supply children with the necessary supplies in the classroom,” said Moore.  “We want to make sure they have everything they need to be successful without dipping into their own pockets.”  Because of the Backpack Drive, many children will be better supplied than they ever have been for the coming school year.

The check for $10,000.00 was presented by Lennar employees to Candace Hodgkins, Angie Boselli and the children to help meet the costs associated with operating the community centers.

“We are so thankful for the support we receive from Lennar,” said Candace Boselli Hodgkins, Executive Director for The Boselli Foundation. “It means everything to the children to know people care about them and want them to have a better future.”

Lennar Homes is dedicated to helping the Boselli Foundation as part of their company Focused Acts of Caring Program, which maintains that it is vitally important to give back to their community. Currently, the Boselli Foundation has hopes to work with Lennar Homes to build their next community center in the North Jacksonville area. The community center will serve as a safe place for youth to gather with friends, receiving tutoring and participate in community activities.
