Northeast Florida Counts Announces Change Agent Leadership Scholarship Presentation and Award Ceremo

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- In February the partners of Northeast Florida Counts launched the Change Agent Leadership Scholarship (CALS) to recognize students’ visionary aptitudes and leadership abilities to create a plan to transform a Northeast Florida community into a vibrant and healthy place to live, work, and play.

On Saturday June 2, Northeast Florida Counts, a health-related quality of life data initiative of the Health Planning Council of Northeast Florida (501c3), will award a one-year, non-renewable scholarship in the amount of $2,500 to two local students to help defer educational costs for a period of one year’s matriculation at any accredited two- or four-year college or university.

Five finalists were selected by the Northeast Florida Counts Steering Committee, and on the evening of June 2nd, each finalist will give a brief presentation expounding on their essay application.  Judging will follow the presentations and two awards will be presented.  The scholarship event is being held in conjunction with the inaugural Community First Hale and Hearty 7K, which begins at 8 AM on June 2nd at the Riverside Arts Market.  These events are a celebration of the Riverside/Avondale area as a healthy community committed to happy and healthy places.

“Using Northeast Florida Counts, the applicants submitted essays that developed an evidence-based solution for improving the health and quality of life for a Northeast Florida community of their choosing. Our goal is to empower young adults to act as change agents within their communities and to demonstrate the importance of health and wellness across various disciplines,” said Dawn Emerick, Ed.D, President & CEO of the Health Planning Council of Northeast Florida.  “We hope the students will learn it is in everyone’s best interest to put health and quality of life as a priority.  This is the first round of scholarships through the CALS program, and we look forward to recognizing the current and future finalists for their desire to transform Northeast Florida into the healthiest region in the Southeast.”
