9/11 Heroes Run: Honoring Those Who Risk Their All

The Travis Manion Foundation is proud to host the first annual Jacksonville 9/11 Heroes Run in partnership with the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund.   Event location will be at the Veterans Memorial Wall, adjacent to Everbank Field, on Saturday September 10, 2011 at 6:00 PM. This is the Jacksonville chapter of the National 9/11 Heroes Run, which has been held in various locations across the country over the past four years.

Before his final deployment, 1st LT Travis Manion, USMC, visited Rescue One in NYC – famous for losing almost all their men on 9/11 – and returned home passionate about why he was fighting in Iraq. He was committed to ensuring no one ever forgets the service of so many men and women who protect us every day. At its heart, the 9/11 Heroes Run is inspired by Travis’ personal commitment to the heroes of that day.  This year 50 races will be conducted across America, Iraq, Afghanistan and aboard a U.S. Navy Ship currently in the Persian Gulf, with the hope of bringing 25,000 runners –  and more than 100,000 participants – together to remember all those who ‘gave their tomorrow for our today.’

“We have one primary goal – to bring community after community together every September 11th to never forget the sacrifice of all our heroes in uniform: military, police, firefighters, and EMTs,” said Janet Manion, Travis’ mother and Chairman of the Travis Manion Foundation.

The Travis Manion Foundation is a qualified 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charity. Created after Travis Manion was killed by enemy fire in Iraq, the Foundation is dedicated to honoring the fallen by challenging the living and preserving the memory and spirit of fallen American heroes.

The Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation is a local, qualified 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charity created by Coach Tom Coughlin to provide financial and emotional support to families who have a child with cancer.  The foundation aims to lift some of the burden of these families and provide a better quality of life.  The Jay Fund will help recruit runners and volunteers and is proud to support this inspiring race.  A portion of the proceeds from the 9/11 Heroes Run will be donated to the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund.   Visit www.tcjayfund.org for more information.

There will be an After party fundraiser for the 9/11 Heroes Run at The Dive Bar (331 East Bay Street) immediately following the run, from 5:30PM-9:30PM. The first drink will be free to all Runners and Patrons who contribute.  Free food, raffle prizes, and music will be provided.
