Egg Farmers Donate Nearly 12 Million Eggs to Feeding America This Easter

Florida egg farmer Dixie Egg Company is giving back to their community and donating 32,400 eggs to the Second Harvest North Florida.  Stretched out shell to shell (each egg is approximately two and a half inches long), the 32,400 donated eggs equal over a mile!

Second Harvest North distributed 19 million pounds of food to individuals and families in 2010, enough food to create 14.6 million meals.

Hundreds of volunteers and members of the Regional Community Institute (RCI) are creating First Coast Vision, a vision for growth and development in the seven county Northeast Florida Region for the next 50 years.  They have done it with the help of more than 1,000 members of the public, who were polled on their preferred growth patterns for the Region, and they have developed goals that describe where they hope the First Coast will be in 50 years.

Local Coalition Targets Crime, Homelessness & Education

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- More than 2,000 leaders from 25 churches met in downtown Jacksonville Monday night with a message: "We want to do our part to make the city better."
    
They're asking our elected officials to do the same.
    
It's a program called I-CARE, the Interfaith Coalition for Action, Reconciliation and Empowerment, which represents 21 congregations from 11 denominations in Jacksonville, Florida.

This year it voted to focus on homelessness, education and neighborhood crime.

They invited both mayoral candidates as well as someone from the state attorney's office, mayor's office, and public defender's office to discuss issues like homelessness and neighborhood crime.

Alvin Brown was there to answer questions, but Mike Hogan's campaign said he couldn't make it.

HabiJax Celebrates ‘A Brush with Kindness’ Housing Repair Program

On April 15, HabiJax will celebrate the completion of 20 homes through a new housing repair program, aimed at providing exterior painting, landscaping, and minor repair services to low-income homeowners in need.  All the homes are located in the New Town Success Zone, an area just west of downtown Jacksonville.
