Supply of Yard Signs Available for Brown Supporters

Supporters who have been asking for yard signs to show their support of mayoral candidate Alvin Brown will begin picking them up beginning at 3 p.m. today at Brown’s downtown campaign headquarters at 233 E. Bay Street. The campaign also plans to distribute about 3,500 signs this weekend, and another 4,000 will be available next week in the campaign’s offices throughout the city.

“The overwhelming number of requests we’re getting for signs is another indication that the campaign is continuing to build momentum,” a campaign spokesman said.

First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to Host Census Rep

The First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (FCHCC) is hosting a data services specialist from the Census Bureau at its May professional networking meeting. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about and discuss Hispanic population trends reported in the 2010 Census. The Census reported that Hispanics account for 56 percent of the nation’s growth over the past decade, according to the Pew Hispanic Center. Florida has seen dramatic increases as well.

Mayoral candidate, Alvin Brown, will be attending the event to speak to guests and participate in a meet and greet.

The Florida Marlins have made a pair of transactions that affects their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tonight’s doubleheader against Huntsville.

First baseman Ben Lasater has been placed on the disabled list, retroactive to May 3, with a left thumb contusion. Lasater, who hit .233 with two home runs and 13 runs batted in during 22 games, left Monday’s game against Montgomery after being hit in the left hand by a pitch.

The Jacksonville Suns (14-14) split a doubleheader against the Huntsville Stars (16-11) on Thursday evening at Joe Davis Stadium. The Suns rallied back for an 8-6 win that took eight innings in the first game of the twinbill while the Stars won the second game 7-3.

Brunet-García Advertising's creative team was honored at the 2011 American Advertising Federation’s 4th District ADDY Awards with two Best of Category awards, three Gold ADDYs and 15 Silver ADDYs at the event held recently in Miami.  The competition, which honors excellence in advertising, is the second step of a three-step journey, taking winning entries from the local level to the national level.
