The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children® (NCMEC), in partnership with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Masonic Child ID Program, will be observing National Missing Children’s Day this year by participating in the national Take 25 child safety campaign. A Child ID event will be held on May 25, 2011 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the following Police Athletic League (PAL) locations:

Tennis Advocates Plan Rally to Save Duval County Public Schools High School Tennis

In the wake of the Duval County School Board announcing that boys' and girls' high school tennis is being placed on the tentative "cut" list for an upcoming School Board vote, Jacksonville tennis advocates are coming out in full force, organizing writing campaigns and urging tennis supporters to attend the next School Board meeting that is open to the public on June 13, 2011, when a vote on the matter will take place.

Like humans, pets are susceptible to overheating. Older dogs, flat-faced dogs, overweight dogs and puppies have the highest risk of heat stroke or heat stress, but owners should make sure that all pets have plenty of cool water and a source of continuous shade when outdoors as temperatures rise across Jacksonville.

City of Jacksonville Announces the 2011 Jacksonville Jazz Hall of Fame Inductees

The City of Jacksonville is proud to announce the 2011 inductees to the Jacksonville Jazz Hall of Fame. The 2011 inductees are Bunky Green and The Honorable Bill Chappell, Jr.* The Jacksonville Jazz Hall of Fame serves to recognize those who have made significant contributions through music education and enthusiasm for jazz in Jacksonville. The induction ceremony will take place on Friday, May 27 at approximately 4:45 p.m. at the Swingin’ Stage presented by the Jacksonville Aviation Authority (Main and Monroe streets).

Are You Being Targeted? Where you are Most Likely to get Ticketed

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- "I just came outside, and I saw a parking ticket," said Keenan Williams, a Jacksonville resident.

Hundreds of parking citations are written daily in Jacksonville by 10 full-time parking enforcement specialists patrolling the city.

"There's no one area that is worse than others. There are some that are more frequent, but none that are worse," said Robert Carle, city parking enforcement director, whose crew is tasked with ticketing downtown, Riverside, and San Marco metered parking equally. "They're looking to turn over parking, and achieve compliance."

But numbers from 2010 show that's not really true. There are areas where vehicles are ticketed more frequently than others - and none of them are downtown. The top four most ticketed spots in Jacksonville are all hospitals.
